Managing volunteers is a deeply rewarding and often challenging responsibility at any affiliate. If you are new to volunteer management, you may have questions on where to start. Participate in this introductory session to learn the seven important areas of the volunteer engagement cycle, volunteer management competencies and promising practices to incorporate in volunteer planning. Courses in this workshop can include volunteer recruitment, designing positions for volunteers, delegating and supervising volunteers, orienting and training volunteers, risk management, volunteer program evaluation, and volunteer motivation and recognition.
Learning objective: This workshop aims to provide a Habitat-focused volunteer engagement professional development opportunity for Habitat for Humanity leaders. It is great for any Habitat staff member whose role includes engaging volunteer teams, groups and individuals.

This session focuses on creating and maintaining inclusive environments within volunteer programs. Participants will learn the importance of fostering a culture where everyone feels valued, heard and included, regardless of their background. We will explore best practices for promoting inclusivity through case studies and group activities, such as implementing equitable recruitment processes; providing ongoing diversity, equity and inclusion training; and ensuring diverse representation in decision-making roles. Attendees will leave with a comprehensive understanding of creating an inclusive volunteer program that reflects and serves the community. The session also addresses the challenges and resistance that may arise when implementing inclusive practices. Using effective communication and conflict-resolution techniques, participants will learn how to navigate these obstacles with sensitivity and determination.

This is a live and interactive workshop of the online safeguarding training. This course will be most beneficial for those staff members who facilitate the group safeguarding training at their affiliates and for those staff/board members who need to take safeguarding training. Attendance and participation in this workshop will provide you with the U.S. safeguarding training requirement (Policy 34, “Affiliates must provide regular safeguarding training for all of their board members, staff members, and volunteers in leadership positions.”)
